The Legendary Career of Shihan Larry Fields, the King of Power Breaking
There is a distinct, unforgettable sound that echoes through an arena right before a world-class martial arts break. It is the heavy, absolute silence of an audience holding its collective breath, followed instantly by a sound like a lightning strike, the explosive, bone-rattling crack of solid concrete and dense timber giving way to human force.
For nearly three decades, nobody has orchestrated that symphony of destruction quite like Shihan Larry Fields.

Known throughout the martial arts world as “The Golden Boy of Breaking,” the 8th Degree Black Belt and founder of the Elite Breakers has transformed the discipline from a demonstration of martial skill into a high-octane, record-smashing competitive sport. With 8 World Records to his name and a career spanning from late-90s regional dominance to standard-setting global victories, Fields has firmly cemented his legacy as the undisputed King of Power Breaking.
From Lone Star Standout to Global Icon
Long before he was shattering stacks of concrete on international television, Fields was a dominant force on the open circuit. In the late 1990s, he tore through the Texas Karate Tournament (TKT) circuit, capturing consecutive state championships across point fighting, specialty forms, and breaking from 1996 to 1998. He proved his elite versatility early on, securing national titles in both the NBL and SKI, and sweeping the breaking, point fighting, and weapons divisions at the 1997 American Black Belt Championships.
By 1999, Fields turned his focus toward the ultimate test of impact dynamics: the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) power breaking division. He captured his first ISKA Power Concrete title that year and successfully defended it in 2000, signaling the arrival of a new era in the sport.

Redefining the Record Books
What separates a great competitor from a true legend is the ability to do what has never been done before. Fields didn’t just beat his contemporaries; he rewrote the boundaries of human performance.
Over his career, Fields has captured 8 World Records, showcasing an astonishing combination of raw velocity and devastating structural force:
- The Velocity Paradigm: In 2003, he shocked the community by obliterating 268 bricks in 60 seconds using a foot stomp. He shattered his own volume thresholds just one year later at the 2004 ISKA championships, driving his elbow through 358 bricks in 60 seconds.
- Pure Speed: At the 2008 USBA/WBA events, he set a blistering world record by dropping 113 bricks in just 10 seconds. He topped that speed-to-mass ratio in 2012 by destroying 66 bricks in an unbelievable 7 seconds.
- The Bat-Breaking Era: Turning his attention to timber, Fields targeted dense #2 baseball bats. In 2010, he set an ISKA World Record by snapping 11 baseball bats in 10 seconds using his shin. The following year, he utilized his trademark elbow strike to shatter 13 bats in 10 seconds.
Even as a veteran master, Fields refused to slow down. In 2020, under the banner of his own Elite Breakers organization, he set two mind-boggling speed marks: snapping 20 baseball bats in 10 seconds with his elbow, and demolishing 372 pieces of concrete in 60 seconds with a side kick.

Decades of Championship Dominance
A glance at the championship timeline reveals a terrifying truth for anyone standing across the competitive ring from Shihan Fields: his dominance is timeless. He has claimed the prestigious ISKA Ultimate Breaker title across three different decades (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2025).
His resume is a masterclass in versatility, capturing major titles in Creative Breaking, Combat Wood, 3-Directional Board, and Heavyweight divisions. In 2010, he swept the IMAA World Championships, taking home top honors for Hardest Kick, Fastest Kick, Hardest Elbow, and Fastest Punch.
Even now, Shihan Larry Fields continues to perform at an elite level. Over the past two seasons, he has undergone a massive competitive surge, sweeping the ISKA world titles in 2025 before transitioning to the PanAm championships to capture a dominant trifecta:
| Year | Championship Event | Divison / Title Captured |
| 2026 | PanAm Championships | PanAm Concrete Arm Champion |
| PanAm Championships | PanAm Horizontal Kick Champion | |
| PanAm Championships | PanAm Ultimate Breaker | |
| 2025 | ISKA World Championships | ISKA Ultimate Breaker |
| ISKA World Championships | ISKA Power Concrete Arm Champion | |
| ISKA World Championships | ISKA Creative Breaking Champion |

A Master Beyond the Ring
Fields’ impact on martial arts extends far beyond the competitive arena. As a world-renowned authority on impact conditioning and structural breaking mechanics, he has been featured on major television networks including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN+, and the Discovery Channel. His charismatic, powerhouse style even earned him mainstream appearances on The Jay Leno Show and The Tom Green Show.
Recognizing the need for proper, safe, and scientifically backed instructional material, the industry giant Century Martial Arts Productions partnered with Fields to produce a definitive series of instructional media, including Basic Breaking I & II, Conditioning Breaking, and Rebreakable Boards.

From his leadership as a former USBA/WBA Director of Texas and Vice President of the AOK, to his time spent on legendary world competition teams like “Team Bergamo” and “RAFK,” Fields has dedicated his life to elevating the sport. His visionary approach was formally recognized in 2013 when he was inducted into the USBA/WBA Hall of Fame with the Competitive Breaking Visionary Award.

Today, as an 8th Degree Black Belt, Shihan Larry Fields stands as a living testament to what can be achieved when absolute mental focus meets perfectly conditioned physical power. He remains the gold standard of the sport—a true champion who didn’t just break barriers, but completely shattered them.

He is a great man and Martial artist! He is such a loyal student! I thank god everyday for Larry!
