SOSMAI 2026 Returns to Ontario with One of Canada’s Premier Multi-Discipline Martial Arts Tournaments
Cobourg, Ontario – The Southern Ontario Spring Martial Arts International (SOSMAI) will return on Saturday, May 2, 2026, bringing together martial artists of all ages, styles, and experience levels for a full day of high-level competition, skill, and community.
Now in its latest edition, SOSMAI has grown into one of Ontario’s most respected open martial arts tournaments, welcoming competitors from traditional and modern systems alike. Divisions will include:
- Forms
- Weapons
- Sparring
- Breaking
- Filipino Martial Arts Anyo (weapons forms)
- Padded stick fighting
With divisions for youth, teens, adults, and black belts, SOSMAI is designed to be accessible to first-time competitors while still offering meaningful challenges for seasoned athletes.
The tournament is organized and hosted by Grandmaster Jonathan Field, owner and head instructor of Cobourg Tae Kwon Do and a long-time contributor to the Canadian martial arts community.
“Our goal has always been to create a professional, well-run tournament that focuses on athlete development, safety, and respect for all styles,” said Field. “Competition is one of the most powerful tools we have for building confidence, discipline, and mental toughness. SOSMAI gives students a platform to test themselves in a positive and supportive environment.”
In addition to traditional Taekwondo and karate divisions, SOSMAI continues to expand its offerings to include specialized events for weapons practitioners and Filipino Martial Arts schools, reflecting the growing diversity of Canada’s martial arts landscape.
Organizers emphasize efficient scheduling, experienced officials, clear rules, and a family-friendly atmosphere, making the event popular with instructors, students, and spectators alike.
Registration for SOSMAI 2026 is currently open and will close on April 5, 2026.
