Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary lists the meaning of ”acceptance” as: The act of accepting, a receiving what is offered, with approbation, satisfaction, or acquiescence.

Wikipedia list “acceptance” as: In human psychology a person’s  assent to the reality of a situation, recognizing a process or condition without attempting to change it or protest it.

The Encyclopedia of the Bible states “acceptance” is a condition of restoration to God. It is clear that God determines who is acceptable to Him, and He is who provides the means of reconciliation of the estranged.

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it. Genesis 4:7 ESV.

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 1 Timothy 1:15 ESV.

The Japanese word ukeireru means “to accept or to receive”. The concept of ukeireru is an approach to life that may yield greater harmony & happiness thus allowing better handling of adversity.

The practice of ukeireru is to come to terms with what’s going on in one’s life and understand that you may not be able to change a certain situation. Yet reminding yourself that certain situations are only temporary.  Taking this perspective may allow you to view the situation in a different light and realize a more positive outlook as to how to manage &/or resolve the issue.

The main concept is that once you start to truly accept others, you’ll have a better understanding of their point of view which may be extremely helpful when their point of view differs from your own.

It your training as a Martial Artist learn to practice “ukeireru” that is to say look at each move of not just the style of martial arts you study but of each and every martial art, attempting to see and accept each style and the movements of each style as it pertains to your overall thinking of each movement as well as life itself.
