Master Gregory Hiltz -Truskoski: A Martial Artist, Soldier, and Teacher
Born on September 23, 1987, in Sudbury, Ontario, Master Gregory Hiltz-Truskoski has lived a life defined by perseverance, discipline, and dedication to service. Spending his early years in Sudbury before moving to Windsor, Ontario, Greg’s martial arts journey began in 2002. Under the guidance of Master Art Mason at The Peaceful Warriors’ Martial Arts Institute, he immersed himself in the study of Hapkido and Kyusho Jitsu. By 2003, his passion had already transitioned into teaching, a calling that would continue to shape his life alongside a distinguished military career.

Greg enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and served proudly for 11 years. Six of those years were spent as an infantryman with 1RCR, where he deployed to Afghanistan as part of Task Force 1-10. In 2010, during combat operations, he was wounded and sustained a partial amputation of his left foot. Yet in the face of this adversity, Greg displayed the resilience that has defined both his martial arts and military paths. He continued to serve in the infantry in heavy weapons and reconnaissance roles before transferring to become an intelligence operator with 12 ASIC. His service concluded in late 2018 with a medical release, but his spirit of leadership and service never wavered.

Even as his military duties demanded much, Greg never abandoned martial arts. He frequently returned to Windsor to continue training with his instructor until Art Mason emigrated to Romania. Along the way, Greg earned his 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kyusho Jitsu in 2011 and his 5th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido in 2015. He also briefly studied Shito Ryu Karate under Sensei Ron Rogge at the Deep River Karate Club, testing to 4th Kyu in 2011. His path in martial arts has been one of lifelong learning and continuous evolution.

In 2014, Greg founded Hiltz Hapkido in Deep River, Ontario. What started humbly in his backyard grew steadily as he expanded programs, first into a church space and eventually into a commercial location downtown by 2019. His vision was not just to build a school, but to create a community—a place where martial arts could be used to empower, strengthen, and connect people of all ages.

Alongside his role as Founder and Head Coach of Hiltz Hapkido, Greg has amassed an impressive list of martial arts ranks and professional certifications. He holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in both Modern Arnis and Kyusho Jitsu, and a 4th Kyu rank in Shito Ryu Karate. His coaching and fitness credentials include Level 1 T.U.S.K. Tomahawk under the WMAA, Level 1 Kickboxing Coach with WAKO, Certified MMA Conditioning Coach (MMACA), Certified Metabolic Conditioning Coach (NESTA), Certified Sports Nutrition Specialist (NESTA), and Certified Kettlebell Coach (NESTA). These qualifications reflect both his depth of martial knowledge and his commitment to developing well-rounded martial artists and athletes.

Greg’s martial arts journey broadened further when he encountered Modern Arnis at a gathering in North Bay. Under the mentorship of Punong Guro Craig Mason, Canada’s leading Modern Arnis practitioner, Greg earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 2022 and continues his advancement today. In addition to Hapkido and Modern Arnis, he has trained across multiple disciplines, holds certifications as a coach in kickboxing, MMA conditioning, kettlebells, metabolic conditioning, and sports nutrition, and has become a multiple-time champion in competitive power breaking.

Beyond his personal achievements, Greg has contributed to the wider martial arts community through teaching seminars at the annual Ontario Martial Arts Symposium and by frequently visiting other dojos, training with peers, and competing in tournaments. His breadth of expertise and his approachable, dedicated teaching style have made him a respected figure among martial artists across Canada.

Today, as Founder and Head Coach of Hiltz Hapkido, Master Gregory Hiltz-Truskoski continues to inspire students through his example of resilience, discipline, and passion for the arts. His story reflects not only the journey of a martial artist but also of a soldier, a teacher, and a leader who has turned challenges into opportunities and service into legacy.
