Developing Your Intuition, finding your third eye by KJN Richard Hackworth
We are all born with our sixth sense or our intuition. Martial arts masters call this the “3rd Eye”.
Accept, Acknowledge and Appreciate.
We are all born with our sixth sense or our intuition. Martial arts masters call this the “3rd Eye”. A person may be born without one or more of the first five senses or lose them to injury or illness, but not so with the sixth sense. It is our connection to our higher or divine self. Through lack of use or the denial of its existence, it can atrophy, but it never disappears. When we incorporate our intuition into our daily lives, things just seem to flow more smoothly. We feel more balanced and better able to handle situations as opposed to being overwhelmed by them. It gives us the ability to be proactive in our lives rather than reactive. Utilizing only our five senses can be likened to a 6-cylinder car running on only 5 cylinders—the ride (our life) will be rough and we will use a lot more gas (physical or mental energy) to get where we are going.

Breathe and Believe
Relax, focus, meditate and believe and you will receive insights. For most people, quieting the mind is the greatest obstacle in developing their intuitive skills. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best… “Let us be silent that we may hear the whispers of God.” With a clear, still mind, the subtle messages of our intuition can be received. In the western world, we often equate meditation with long periods of isolation and discomfort, but meditation can be much simpler than that. A time of reflection and contemplation for 10-15 minutes once or twice a day is all that is needed. For those that find it difficult getting still or relaxing in a sitting or
laying down position (or if that is not practical at the moment), a moving meditation can be very powerful. Walking, Martial Arts, gardening, vacuuming or even taking a shower can be used for moving meditation. How often have you heard someone say, my best thoughts come to me in the shower?” This is simply a result of their being completely absorbed in a simple task with no external noises or distractions. Add to this proper deep rhythmic breathing which so few of us do, and you’ll find doors opening that you never knew existed. Focus is your key to development.

Commitment, Consistency, Courage to Change
The more regularly you can quiet your mind, or meditate, the easier it becomes. If you trained in martial arts only once a week you wouldn’t expect to become physically fit and derive the benefits of good fitness for the rest of your life. To become the “Warrior” You must commit to a regular program. Meditation works the same way. Just 10-15 minutes a day on a consistent basis will strengthen your meditation ‘muscles’ and produce remarkable results. You will feel subtle changes occurring within you. However, it takes courage to change. Change is not something that comes easily for most of us. We tend to avoid it, even when it is to our benefit, preferring instead the comfort of that which we know. Silence and solitude will enable you to reconnect with yourself and clear your mind so you can create the inner peace that is there for you to claim. If you live a telephone and pager driven, deadline-oriented life as most have, this silence may be frightening and a challenge to attain. Remember, endurance is just a form of concentration… make a commitment to be quiet and listen.
You must make a decision to do it! Remember, a wish never changes anything.
But a decision can change everything.

Decide On a Question, Demystify the Process
The secret is in asking the right question. To paraphrase, “a problem properly defined is a problem half solved.” An ambiguous question can have many answers, none of which give you the direction you desire. For example, “Will I become a black belt?” might not give you the answer you really want. It is too vague to provide useful information. If you are interested in whether or not you will be a successful martial artist, if you will receive popular acclaim, if you will make lots of money, etc., you need to include that in the question. A better question might be “Will I become a successful master martial artist, able to support myself and my family?” If you receive answers that don’t seem to answer the question, it’s not necessarily a short circuit in your intuitive breaker box. It is likely that you failed to properly ask the question. That is why you have to clearly define the question during your time of silence and solitude.

Expect Answers to Everything, Eventually
You will receive answers or insights. Clients often tell me “I meditated for a half-hour and didn’t get anything.” The frustration is understandable, but we must realize that time is not linear where our intuition is concerned. Your intuitive channel may open instantly, providing a staggering wealth of knowledge. It may also come as a subtle feeling or knowing that comes over you. On the other hand, you may get insights to your questions hours, days or even weeks later. Everything will be answered, eventually.
When you do receive insights, how do they come to you? Everyone will experience it differently. It may feel like it’s:
1. Your imagination
2. A coincidence
3. A‘pulling’ feeling in your torso
4. A little voice inside your head
5. A shiver in your body or your hair standing on end
As we all process logical data differently, so, too, do we perceive our intuition differently.
Focus, Faith and Fun
Start to focus on how you receive the information when it comes through. It may be difficult at first, but remember, you have not used this faculty for awhile. Just as with a new exercise program, you start out slowly and build up. Your intuition is like a muscle that must be warmed up before you vigorously exercise it. Start off with something easy… for example, who is on the telephone when it rings. Begin to notice how the information comes to you. The nature of the information is so subtle that, if you aren’t ready for it, it may pass you by without leaving any footprints in your mind.
Most importantly, learn to have faith in the information you receive. When you believe you are psychic and you receive insights, you are and you do! Intuition does not replace your intellect. We still need to process information and make decisions based upon the use of all of our senses, intellectual, emotional and intuitive. Our sixth sense is the missing piece of the puzzle-when it’s added to the equation, it makes for far better results than reason alone. Finally, have fun! Enjoy developing this long forgotten skill.
