SOKE RICK GREENE FLOW OF MOTION

SOKE RICK GREENE FLOW OF MOTION

Soft fist techniques are primarily based upon the correct understanding and use of principles of momentum and flow of motion. Without an understanding of these, the Jujutsuka cannot fully develop. A study of the basic laws of physics is necessary, and such laws include vectors, motion, conservation of energy, centrifugal force, and inertia. The explanation of this in full detail can be obtained in a good physics textbook. However, we will define a few terms related directly to the practice of the soft arts:

  • Motion: The movement of an object, either in a straight line or circular.
  • Inertia: An object that is at rest tends to remain at rest, and an object in motion tends to remain in motion.
  • Momentum: Could be defined as the speed of moving an object combined with its weight or total mass; this speed and weight make momentum.
  • Vector: The movement of an object at an angle from its original path.
  • Centrifugal Force: The tendency of an object to move in a straight line rather than a circle.

The Karate hard fist uses straight lines or linear-type blocking. This means that the blocking arm or hand moves more angularly than the circle found in the soft fist of Jujutsu. Soft fist blocking revolves around the application of the principles found in circular rather than linear movement. Soft fist blocking is circular in form, seeking to utilize the basic circular movements of the human body.

Circular blocking operates upon these principles of physics. Circular movements are natural to the human body. Swing your arm in a circle and notice how natural that movement is. Circle blocking operates on that motion. Soft fist blocking does not seek to stop the motion of the aggressor, only to redirect and control the attack. Contact with the aggressor’s arm, capture of the arm with control through the application of Jujutsu techniques.

Midori Kazoku Bushi Jujutsu was founded in 1986 by Founder/Soke Rick Greene. Mr. Greene started training in Jujutsu in 1978. He holds the grades of Judan/10th Dan, Menkyo Kaiden with the title of Soke. He is the author of “This is Jujutsu,” a 250-page book. Also, his art of Midori Kazoku Bushi Jujutsu is a registered style in Japan. Our Kamon and our monument that stands in front of our dojo were built in 1986. I’m a retired police officer, and my age is 71 years old.
