Kancho Martin Farrell
Chief instructor of the Kokuryu Kai International and World All Styles Combat Association.
President of Kokuryu Kai International and World All Styles Combat Association.

Martin embarked on his martial arts journey in 1975 when he joined the Bru Mhuire amateur boxing club in Dublin. This coincided with the rise of Bruce Lee in cinemas, a phenomenon impossible to overlook. Subsequently, in around 1981, Martin’s father introduced him to a Karate club. The energetic atmosphere of the dojo, filled with loud yells and the sharp sounds of crisp white suits, captivated his interest. The instructor’s mastery of moves and techniques proved captivating. This Shotokan Karate club, situated on the north side of Dublin, was led by instructors Sensei Philip McCarthy and Eamon Dwyer.

Around 1981-82, Martin encountered a slender, young instructor teaching a novel martial arts style, drawing him into a new realm of practice. During his initial grading, Martin had the privilege of meeting Grand Master Tom Foley, who profoundly impacted his journey as a friend, master, and mentor until his passing. Tom imparted invaluable wisdom and guidance, instilling in Martin a deep appreciation for fair play that continued through his involvement with the WKA while Under Tom’s mentorship, Martin assumed the role of Vice President of the WKA, with the Partnership of Steve Collins, North of Ireland organizing and promoting both amateur and professional kickboxing events and title fights in the Republic of Ireland.

Throughout his collaboration with Tom and the Kokuryu Kai, Martin’s focus remained unwavering: to elevate all facets of martial arts to a professional standard and empower fellow martial artists to realize their aspirations. Rather than dwell on past achievements, Martin directs his vision towards future accomplishments. With a dedicated team by his side, he is committed to upholding Tom’s legacy and realizing their shared ambitions.
